NEW DELHI, November 19
(RIA Novosti) -- Russian embassy representatives met on Monday with the five
people who were arrested in Sri Lanka over a credit card scam and confirmed
they were indeed Russian nationals.
Sri Lankan police
arrested the Russians on Sunday in Colombo with 250 fraudulently acquired
credit cards.
Russia has yet to
receive official notification from the Sri Lankan authorities concerning the
case, the embassy said.
A police spokesman
earlier said the Russians were arrested with over $25,000 dollars they had
withdrawn from ATM machines in Sri Lanka, and said they had accomplices in
Cambodia and Vietnam.
They also had various
equipment, including laptops, used in the credit card scam.
The embassy said the
detainees had no complaints about conditions at the jail where they are being
held.
