– Tamil Nadu fisheries minister K.A. Jayapal has denied reports that Indian
fishermen were attacked allegedly by the Sri Lanka Navy on April 02.
“A
section of the media reported that Tamil fishermen were attacked by Sri Lankan
Navy on April 2. On investigation, we found that the reports were not true,” he
has told the Assembly.
Such
an event “did not happen” on April 02 and all the 504 fishing boats that
ventured into the sea returned on April 03, he said, adding, they were not
attacked.
“However,
our Chief Minister has been writing letters to the Centre on this (attacks on
fishermen). She has written six letters in these 10 months,” minister Jayapal
said.
