Minister: Iran Keen to Boost Judicial Cooperation with Sri Lanka

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Justice Minister Seyed Morteza Bakhtiari said Iran is ready to take effective steps to further expand mutual cooperation with Sri Lanka in judicial fields.

"Given the existence of grounds for the promotion of interactions between the two countries of Iran and Sri Lanka, we can have effective interactions with each other not only in the extradition of criminals but also in other judicial and civil issues," Bakhtiari said in a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Rauff Hakeem here in Tehran on Saturday.
Bakhtiari said Iran's judicial apparatus is prepared to arrange training courses for Sri Lankan legal experts in a bid to transfer its legal experiences to the South Asian state.
Bakhtiari further underlined the necessity for Iran and Sri Lanka to play an active role to establish an international court of justice in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) as international legal centers have not acted properly to defend the oppressed nations.
Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a meeting with Sri Lankan Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen underlined Tehran's readiness to further develop relations and cooperation with Colombo in different fields.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is fully ready for supporting and evermore expansion of comprehensive cooperation with Sri Lanka, particularly in political, economic, commercial, transit, and joint investments fields," Salehi said in Tehran at the time.
Bathiyutheen, for his part, appreciated the Iranian officials for their assistance in the process of his country's development, and expressed the hope that the level of commercial and economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly in energy field, would increase.
